Members of the Department of Public Works (DPW) in Hastings-on-Hudson continue to address the aftermath of Storm Fern, with ongoing efforts complicated by colder-than-usual temperatures. The Police Department has supported these operations by managing road closures, posting signage, and keeping residents informed.
Mayor Thomas Drake expressed appreciation for both departments, stating, “I want to begin by again thanking the members of our DPW who continue working to clear the remaining impacts of Storm Fern. Their efforts have been made more challenging by the prolonged below-than-normal temperatures. This work would not be possible without the support of our Police Department, which has coordinated road closures, posted signage, and ensured the community has been kept informed in advance. Thank you to both departments!”
A neighborhood workshop on a proposed sidewalk project for Rosedale Avenue is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the James Harmon Community Center. Residents are encouraged to attend and provide feedback directly to project engineers.
The Board of Trustees will vote on February 17 on setting an electric vehicle charging rate at $0.35 per kWh for village charging stations. The village continues to receive positive feedback about eliminating downtown parking fees and establishing residential parking zones.
Due to a heating system failure in one apartment building, the James Harmon Community Center has been opened as a daytime warming location for affected residents while repairs are underway. Overnight accommodations have also been arranged for those needing them.
Sugar Pond is currently open for skating because of the extended cold weather. Mayor Drake shared his personal connection to this activity: “Sugar Pond is open for skating! One upside of this unprecedented cold spell is the opportunity to enjoy outdoor skating, and I hope many of you have been able to take advantage of it. My memories of skating on Sugar Pond have never left me, and I hope you’ll feel the same as I do! Remember that this is an unsupervised activity, and everyone is encouraged to never skate alone.”
Residents can check updates on pond conditions through the village website at http://hohny.gov.
