FOIA Request to SUNY at Purchase College regarding Chinese National students on June 16, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to SUNY at Purchase College by the Westchester Reporter on June 16, 2025. The request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese National students enrolled at the university. The request is made under the New York Freedom of Information Law and asks for the information in electronic format if possible.

The FOIA request comprises several specific inquiries:

1. A list or documents showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their department of study. If such information is protected, a total number of these students and a breakdown by department is requested.

2. Documents or lists detailing the scholarships received by current Chinese National students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.

3. Information on any scholarships awarded by grantors affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council that are not covered in the previous request.

4. Policies or procedures outlining how the university monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.

The request was sent on behalf of both Westchester Reporter and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing transparency in government operations through public records access.

The Westchester Reporter emphasized its role in holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public as part of its journalistic responsibilities. The publication also sought a fee waiver for accessing these records due to its media status.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
