Westchester County Parks, Recreation and Conservation has initiated an emergency order to fast-track the reopening of Playland Amusement Park for the 2025 season. Commissioner Kathy O’Connor issued the order to address urgent maintenance needs following abrupt operational challenges.
The order states, “The Emergency order will allow the County to hire a company to inspect specific rides, secure all necessary supplies and parts to operate the rides, repair and thereafter maintain the rides. Standard’s abrupt departure leaves the County with little time to properly carry out all of this work. Standard left little or no spare parts in inventory, in some cases did not properly winterize rides and a number of rides were left dis-assembled.”
To respond to the immediate demands, the Parks Department decided against traditional competitive bidding. They have appointed Zamperla, Inc., a global enterprise, to manage the emergency tasks. The company is tasked with inspecting, repairing, replacing, and maintaining rides, alongside securing necessary supplies.
Westchester County is managing 11 rides manufactured by Zamperla, with several others originating from a manufacturer no longer operational.
