The City of New Rochelle announced on April 13 a series of community events scheduled for Earth Week in April and continuing into May, focusing on sustainability and environmental engagement.

These activities are part of the city’s ongoing efforts to strengthen resilience as outlined in its GreeNR Climate Action Plan. The events aim to activate public spaces, encourage civic pride, and foster connections among residents while promoting environmentally responsible practices.

“We’re excited to bring our community together this spring through a series of events that make sustainability engaging, accessible, and fun,” said City Manager Wilfredo Melendez. “From celebrating Earth Day and volunteering in our parks to enjoying our beautiful waterfront, these activities offer meaningful ways for residents to connect with one another while helping to create a cleaner, greener New Rochelle.”

Scheduled highlights include an Earth Day Festival at City Hall on April 22 featuring eco-friendly vendors, music, art activities, and more. Arbor Day will be commemorated with the planting of a Liberty Tree honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary—a gesture intended both as an environmental initiative and as recognition of historic ideals. Additionally, the city will hold its tenth annual Parks Clean-Up Weekend in partnership with Volunteer NY on April 25-26 across thirteen local parks.

In May, residents can participate in “Tag NR: Community-Wide Tag Sale” on May 2 along Hamilton Avenue or join the twelfth annual Kite Day at Davenport Park where families can fly kites together and enjoy refreshments.

Updates about these events will be available through the city’s social media channels.
